New York Times bestselling crime fiction author Thomas Perry of Nightlife and fan favorite The Butcher’s Boy, has graciously accepted our invitation to step in as Bouchercon 2007’s American Guest of Honor. From his website http://www.thomasperryauthor.com/ Thomas Perry was born in Tonawanda, New York in 1947. He received a B.A. from Cornell University in 1969 and a Ph.D. in English from the University of Rochester in 1974. He has worked as a park maintenance man, factory laborer, commercial fisherman, university administrator and teacher, and a writer and producer of prime time network television shows. He is the author of fourteen novels. He lives in Southern California with his wife and two daughters.
   
Our Special Guest of Honor will be Diana Gabaldon, http://www.dianagabaldon.com/ the international bestselling author of the Outlander novels about time-travelling nurse Claire Beauchamp and Highlander lord Jamie Fraser, as well as the historical crime fiction Lord John series, featuring Lord John Grey, a breakout character from the Outlander novels.
   
Bouchercon 2007 is awarding a lifetime achievement award to James Sallis, author of last year’s wildly acclaimed noir, Drive. From his website: “Author of the popular Lew Griffin novels and the recent novel Cypress Grove, he has also written an avant-garde novel, Renderings, and a spy novel, Death Will Have Your Eyes, as well as countless short stories, poems, and essays. In addition, he has written and edited a number of musicological studies and works of literary criticism, including The Guitar Players, Difficult Lives, a study of noir writers, and Chester Himes: A Life, a biography of one of his literary heroes. Jim has even turned his hand to writing screenplays, and he pens regular columns for the Boston Globe, Fantasy and Science Fiction, and Web Del Sol.”
   
Our fan guest of honor is Barbara Peters, proprietor of the immensely successful Poisoned Pen Bookstore in Scottsdale, Arizona, who has single-handedly done more to promote the genre of crime fiction than anyone else living today.
